Trafficking in human beings for the purpose of criminal exploitation (in other words, exploitation in criminal activities) is the offence of inducing persons to commit criminal acts. This form of human trafficking occurs in various guises. The courts in the Netherlands have heard cases in which people were induced to commit theft, smuggle drugs and cut hemp. People can also be fraudulently persuaded to surrender their social security benefits. This form of exploitation was already a criminal offence, but in 2013 it was explicitly inserted in Article 273f of the Dutch Criminal Code (DCC), the provision that criminalises human trafficking.
